I went to visit her in South Carolina. We were getting ready to go and explore Greenville, SC and I had been ready for about 10 minutes. I went to see what was taking her so long to get ready and I see her prepping in the mirror with a big cloud of hair floating on her head. She seemed very serious, practiced. Every move she made was intentional and precise as she gradually beautified herself.
It had been another 10 minutes before I realized I had been leaning against the door jamb just taking it all in. I’m usually a stickler for punctuality, but in this moment I’d lost track of time.

I wanted this song to feel deep, brown and open. Strings hover and support the soul rhythm of bass and drums. Electric piano holds everything together with a gentle grip. I didn’t do as much background vocals on this one quite purposefully. I wanted to allow the music to represent her process of beautification and my voice simply admire it in time.
